Chiltern Ride and Curry

Hi,

For those interested I'd like to propose a Chiltern Ridgeway MTB ride based around the Wendover area. Ride starting from my house (Berkhamsted), and returning to my local for a well deserved Thai Curry....

Dates proposed:

July 12th - posse preference

Start Point: Lock 48 on the Grand Union Canal, post code HP4 3TF

Start Time 3.00pm

Let me know if you are intersted and your preferred dates. I'll try to organise and confirm details.

Update: Here is the link to my suggested route in Tracklogs format (pic added above): http://knobblies.googlepages.com/R2_Wendover_24Mile_option.trl This route is not 'set in stone' and we can easily make changes on the day as required.

Great news and about time ! ;-)

The last two dates work best for me, I'm on call 5/6th :-(

Sounds good, but not sure I can make it. I'll just watch out for which day you pick and see if I can sneak along at the last minute;-)

Thanks for so many comments!

Let's provisionally assign the 12th July as the ride date. I've two ride options in mind. I'll work out the mileage for each but the first ride option is a figure of 8 from my house taking in Wendover and Combe Hill (approx 26 miles). It should take around 2.5 hours. (Rob and Farq rode half of this last year) The second is the 'Epic' option which adds an additional hour to option one and takes in the start of the Ridgeway and includes Pitstone Hill (Rob is familiar with this section after last year's Ridgeway ride). Route 2 should take around 3.5 hours (approx 35 miles).
I welcome comments and suggestions regarding the route. My only agenda is to provide a route that's varied with some descent up and down bits and great views! I suggest a start time of maybe 3.00pm but again I'm open to suggestions.

Now you have got me worried - I know I am not that quick, but an average of 10mph off road sounds ambitious unless there is a lot of flat stuff.
Have to allow for the less fit and mechanicals/punctures???

Now you have got me worried! I'll check the mileage and re-confirm. It is very varied terrain. Its generally short, moderatly steep climbs and relatively undulating terrain on top. the hills are no where near as intense as the 'Watlington Ridgeway' area. No, I've not allowed for mechanicals/punctures. I'm happy to conceed that I may be over optimistic with my estimates! Like I said, I'm easy, we can decide what to do based on the group concensus, time available, conditions on the day......

Route option 1 is around 22 miles and option 2 is around 30 miles. It appears my times were based on an average of around 8 mph. I'll post some tracklogs after the weekend so all can take a closer look.

Rob, hope this is still on - can you post Tracklogs so we can have a look?
Thanks!

Alas a final doctors appointment scheduled for Chippy (in London) on the same day at almost the same time (FCS) has scuppered my hope of rollin' on this one :-(

Enjoy yourselves.
